Fred wins Goal of the Season Award

His goal at Stoke, just about the only action all afternoon that was worth watching, polled over 30% of our vote. There was no fancy build up whatsoever, that would have certainly been out of context in that game.

In fact he collected the ball from a Stoke player who had headed the ball out of his own box and in one move hit an unstoppable shot from distance that swerved and gave the Stoke keeper no chance whatsoever.

It proved to be the winning, in fact only, goal of the game in what was Burnley’s last away win of the season.

Gareth Taylor’s goal against Wolves came second – a superb goal that Gareth himself started by playing it to Robbie Blake on the left win. He then made ground and when Robbie Blake crossed from the left there was Taylor to head home.

So Fred takes the award from Arthur who was the winner last season with his match winner at Deepdale against Preston. Arthur did the double last season but Graham Branch took his Player of the Year award this time round.
