Frank is tomorrow's special guest

It was one of eighteen league goals Frank scored that season, but the only goal he scored for Burnley against tomorrow's opponents. And he will be in front of the crowd again at half time as the special guest.

He needs no introduction to the Burnley crowd, he was signed from Rotherham in the summer of 1967, Burnley's first signing for eight years, and over the next seven years became a firm favourite with the crowd. Who knows how far he would have gone in his playing career had it not been cut short by thuggery at Elland Road in March 1974.

It was the second injury that season at a time when he was surely on the brink of an England call. That second injury sadly finally forced him to retire from the game although he did play a few games eighteen months later and scored his 100th league goal against QPR.

He joined the coaching staff in January 1976, just after Joe Brown had taken over as manager. He had responsibility for the youth team, but moved up to the reserves, then the first team under Brian Miller before succeeding his as manager, not once but twice.

The second time was in 1989 after he'd worked at Bury with Martin Dobson, the very club where his son is now manager, but he resigned in October 1991 and ended his association with the game.

He still lives locally, he's still a keen Claret although I believe he does watch Bury on occasions. I'm not sure which goal I'll remember when he walks out tomorrow, there are plenty of good strikes to recall, but maybe the one against Chelsea that sent us to the top of the First Division early in the 1973/74 season.
