Franchise are coming

Our opponents this week are Franchise FC, a club that has bought its way into the Football League and has been granted First Division status in its first season. They haven’t just jumped two divisions though they have jumped the entire pyramid system that is in place within our football.

They will arrive at the Turf claiming to be Wimbledon FC but all those with any interest in the game will know that this is not the case, that this club actually tried to demolish Wimbledon to set themselves up. That failed and although they are now playing their football in the Combined Counties League at the home of Kingstonian we can tell you that Wimbledon are very much alive and well.

Not so these pariahs of English football who have no feeling for the game and no awareness of what it means. They are even planning to up sticks by Christmas and move some seventy miles and more.

The Football League tell me that is against its rules, the FA tell me they are against it and Adam Crozier has said he is appalled. Yet it is these organisations who have allowed this to happen.

As for Franchise Chairman Charles Koppel words really do fail me. Suffice to say that the sooner this offensive man is out of football for good the better the game will be. Last week they actually bussed people to Selhurst Park from Milton Keynes for an all in £10 charge whilst those few supporters who haven’t deserted them had to pay from £18 upwards just for the game.

I sincerely hope that he is not made welcome by the directors of Burnley Football Club on Saturday. I sincerely hope that our Chairman Barry Kilby stands by his principles and snubs the man.

One Burnley web site has dared to suggest that we don’t attend but please pay no attention to that ridiculous plea. We should be turning up in as big a numbers as possible to show Koppel just what a real football club can be like, a club that is part of a real community.

Let us show Koppel that Burnley supporters are against franchising.

Later today Clarets Mad will welcome a supporter of the real Wimbledon, Chris Philips a DJ with Kiss 100 in London. Please read what Chris has to say and let’s all make sure we do what we have to do to make sure this never happens to another football club.

And please if you can make it then get to the Turf on Saturday and support the Clarets. In doing so you will be helping our own club and also be doing your bit to show the pariahs that franchising cannot be allowed.

If you are in the south east of the country and you cannot make it to the Turf then can we suggest if possible you go and give your support to AFC Wimbledon in their Combined Counties League game. They are away this week against Frimley Green and the game is actually being played at the AIMITA Stadium, Cherrywood Road, Farnborough. Go and wear your Claret and Blue with pride and I can assure you that you will receive the warmest of welcomes from the real AFC Wimbledon fans.
