Foy set to replace Jones in the middle

If so, it will be the first time in just over a year since he refereed us; that occasion was our away game against Bolton at the Reebok in February 2013, a game we lost 2-1 after a David Edgar goal had given us the lead.

That is, until now, the only Burnley game the St. Helens based Foy has refereed since our Premier League season when he took charge of a total of five games, one of which being the 5-3 defeat at West Ham when manager Owen Coyle argued that all five goals we conceded were down to his decisions.

He sent Steven Caldwell off in that game and whilst refereeing Burnley there have been four other red cards. One was David Unsworth in the game that sealed Steve Cotterill's fate as Burnley manager and he dismissed both Wayne Routlidge and Shaun Derry on the opening day of the 2003/04 season but we were still beaten by Crystal Palace.

He's had some difficult games recently, none more so than his last two, Aston Villa v Chelsea and Hull v West Brom, but he remains an experienced referee who has been a Football League referee since 1996 and been in the Premier League since 2001.

Now aged 51, he is one of the most experienced referees in the league who sits in 15th place in RATE THE REF with a rating of 71.87 out of 100.

This season, in 28 games, he's handed out 77 yellow cards and six red cards. Five of those red cards have come in the Premier League but he's also sent off Sheffield Wednesday's Jose Semedo in a 1-1 draw at Bolton.

Of the yellow cards, 38 have gone to home team players and 39 to away team players.
