Foy is Rotherham referee

Last updated : 10 August 2004 By Tony Scholes
And we will be hoping he doesn’t make the same sort of start as he did a year ago when he sent off two away players in his first game. Mind you it didn’t help the home side who still lost – the result was Burnley 2 Crystal Palace 3.

That day both Wayne Routledge and Shaun Derry saw his red card whilst there were four yellow cards to add to that.

It was his last Burnley league game although we did see him again two months later when he refereed our Carling Cup exit at Wolves on a night when the greatest excitement was the heart attack inducing pre-match fireworks.

He followed up that opening game with another red card when Coventry’s Youssef Safri went for diving against Walsall when he’d been fouled, but in 21 more matches after that he showed his red card just once more, to dismiss Paul Hall of R&D in a 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool.

Neither was he over eager with his yellow cards, there were 68 in the 23 games at just about three a game. They were handed out fairly evenly too with 32 going to home players and 36 to away players.

Tonight he will be assisted by Gary Kellett from West Yorkshire and Gary Sutton from Lincolnshire.
