Foy gets Emirates tie

Last updated : 07 March 2009 By Tony Scholes
He sent off David Unsworth with five minutes to go for what he considered to be preventing a goal scoring opportunity but the Clarets central defender had won the ball cleanly and a free kick should not have been awarded, let along a red card shown. In stoppage time we conceded a goal from a Michael Turner header with the loss of Unsworth crucial.

In all fairness to him we've never really had problems with him in a number of games over the last decade and more, and I would think his worst game was our very first game of this Millennium at Notts County when we lost 2-0. That proved to be our last away defeat of the season as we went on to win promotion.

He refereed last week's Carling Cup Final but has been in action since, taking charge of Manchester City's 2-0 win against Aston Villa. They are two of 26 games this season in which he's yellow carded 98 players. Of those, 48 of them have gone to home team players and 45 to away team players. He's sent off just one player, Stoke's Andy Wilkinson in a 1-0 home defeat against Manchester United.

Hopefully there will be no misjudgements as there were with the Unsworth red card and if not then this is a referee that shouldn't cause the two sides many problems. Although it will be his first Burnley game for sixteen months he refereed Arsenal as recently as January when they beat Bolton 1-0 at the Emirates.

Tomorrow he will be assisted by John Flynn (Wiltshire) and Phil Sharp (Hertfordshire) and the fourth official is Premier League referee is André Marriner (West Midlands) who refereed our Carling Cup win over Arsenal at the beginning of December.
