Foy at Arsenal - or is it?

Last updated : 06 March 2010 By Tony Scholes
Earlier in the week the game was apparently in the hands of Alan Wiley but now it appears that Chris Foy will be the man in the middle of our game, and this will be his fifth Burnley game of the season.

The first was the home game against Sunderland and then it was two away games at Blackburn and West Ham before he took charge of the home game against Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

Game number five for Foy should have been on our last visit to London for the game against Fulham, but at the last minute he was replaced by Steve Bennett. Generally he's been ok in the four games, the second Blackburn goal apart, and he's now rated one of the better referees in the Premier League.

He's also refereed three Arsenal games this season. Two of those were away games for them at West Ham and Manchester City whilst his only visit to the Emirates was at the end of January for their defeat to Manchester United.

Three weeks ago he refereed the FA Cup tie between Reading and West Brom at the Madejski and he sent off both Shane Long (Reading) and Youssuf Mulumbu (West Brom), his first red cards since the dismissal of Steven Caldwell in November, and it has taken his total of red cards to five.

His yellow card count has now reached 76 in 27 games. Four of those came in the Community Shield game and of the others, 32 have gone to home team players and 40 to away team players.

Chris Foy's last game was almost two weeks ago when he refereed the game between Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers at Ewood Park. Gretar Steinsson was the only player to receive a yellow card in a game that Blackburn won 3-0.

Today his assistant referees are Shaun Procter-Green (Lincolnshire) and Mark Scholes (Buckinghamshire). Fourth official is Premier League referee Mike Dean (Wirral).
