Four For Foy

Last updated : 25 December 2009 By Tony Scholes
He refereed the home game against Sunderland back in September and has since taken charge of two away games, at Blackburn and West Ham. In the first of those two away games I thought he let us down, certainly by allowing the second goal.

At West Ham his handling of the game was brought into question by Owen Coyle, the Burnley manager questioned him on all five of the goals that West Ham scored in that game.

He sent off Steven Caldwell in that game, meaning the Burnley skipper missed the game at Portsmouth the following week. That was his third red card of the season following Scott Parker (West Ham) and Gary Neville (Manchester United).

To add to those three red cards, his yellow card count has now gone up to 59 in 17 games with a massive eight cards in the Carling Cup tie between Manchester City and Arsenal.

Of those cards 25 have gone to home team players and 30 to away team players. The other four were in the Community Shield game at Wembley.

Burnley have seen more of Foy than Bolton have this season. Tomorrow will be his third Bolton game this season. He previously refereed their away games at Portsmouth and Wolves.

His assistant referees are Nigel Bannister and Richard West (both East Yorkshire). The fourth official is Football League referee Mark Haywood (West Yorkshire) who has had a couple of shockers in the middle at Turf Moor.
