Foster moves to the Wirral

Foster joined Burnley in the summer of 2006 but was with us for just a year and signed for Barnsley in August 2007, going on to captain the team on many occasions during a six year stay at Oakwell that ended when he was released in May.

Having been linked with a number of clubs, he's opted for a move to Tranmere and will sign a two year deal with the Birkenhead based club at the start of July and is likely to feature in the friendly against us at Prenton Park on 23rd July.

Ronnie Moore was happy to complete the deal and said today: "I'm delighted Stephen has agreed to join us ahead of a host of other clubs who were after his signature. He's got plenty of experience and has spent most of his career in the Championship.

"He's a strong defender who reads the game well, is good in the air and is comfortable on the ball. The signing of Stephen will stiffen the defence where we were a bit short last year, especially in the second phase. He will organise the back four and stop that."
