Former youth player gets deal at Oldham

Neal was one of the youngsters released at the end of the 2004/05 season and after spending a large part of last season out with an injury he joined the Latics towards the end of it and, at the age of 19, was offered a three month contract in the summer.

He's moved on from there and has impressed the management to the extent that he's been included in the first team squad for each of their last three games and this has led to manager John Sheridan offering him a longer term deal through to the end of the season.

Neal signed his new contract directly after he had played for their reserves against Stockport in a Manchester Senior Cup tie, a game in which he scored the only goal as Oldham went through.

With Kyle Lafferty and Chris McCann in the Burnley squad, and Marc Pugh at Bury, there are now four players from that final team contracted to league clubs. We'd like to congratulate Neal on winning this contract and look forward to him making his league debut for Oldham in the near future.
