Heath arrived at Highfield Road a year ago with Peter Reid but he stayed on after Reid’s departure and after a spell as caretaker he continued as assistant manager under Micky Adams.

Today he said he was disappointed to be leaving Coventry but did so and is all set to join Phil Brown as his right hand man at Pride Park although Adams wanted him to stay with the Sky Blues.

Adams said, “We are obviously very disappointed to see Adrian leaving us. I have worked very closely with him since arriving at Coventry and would like to thank him for his contribution during his time with us, including helping to keep the club in the Championship.”

He added, “The offer from Derby County was obviously too good for him to turn down and we wish him all the best.”
