Former Claret on the move

There was much rumour around Turf Moor that Waddle had two options when he decided to bring in an untried striker. One was Henderson, then at Morpeth, the other was Halifax Town’s Geoff Horsfield. Waddle went for Henderson.

That was in December 1997 but he never made it at Turf Moor and in an eighteen month stay he never started a first team match. His first appearance was as a half time substitute for Andy Payton in an Auto Windscreens tie ironically against Carlisle. We won the tie, a the Turf, 4-1 and he scored the last goal with a well struck shot in the last minute.

His only other goal was in a 2nd Division match in December 1998 when he scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Lincoln. On this occasion he had come on as a 58th minute substitute for Phil Eastwood but despite the goal it proved to be his last ever first team appearance for the Clarets and he was released at the end of the season.

He signed for Hartlepool and did well for a time but injuries forced him out of the side and then he was unable to get back in. He signed a loan deal in September at Carlisle and after two months, again hit by injury, he has now made the deal permanent and could play today in their game at Lincoln.
