Former Claret on the move

Henderson was a Chris Waddle signing for Burnley, signing from Morpeth at a time when we were expecting to sign Geoff Horsfield from Halifax.

He was at the Turf for 18 months but never made a first team start although he did make a total of twenty appearances as a substitute scoring twice including one in the league in a 1-1 home draw against Lincoln.

At the end of Stan’s first season in charge and with 2nd Division football secured for another season he was released and eventually signed for Hartlepool. He made a number of substitute appearances there too before finally making his first start and after finally establishing himself in the team he had a fruitful season in 1999/2000 scoring 19 goals in 48 appearances (47 of them starts).

But injuries and subsequent new arrivals cost him his starting place at Hartlepool and last season all but 6 of 32 appearances were as a substitute and in the last two seasons he has contributed just four goals.

It has been the same this season under new manager Neale Cooper and a 45 appearance against Bristol City along with three short substitute bursts is all he has played.

Now Carlisle’s temporary boss Paul Simpson, in charge since Roddy Collins was forced out by angry fans, has taken him on a month’s loan in the hope of lifting the club off the bottom of Division Three. For Henderson it is a chance to get back to playing again and back amongst the goals.

He is expected to make his debut for Carlisle this weekend as they take on Simpson’s previous club Rochdale in their search for a first win of the season.
