Former Claret Lafferty back in England with Norwich

Lafferty, now 26, has signed a three year contract with the Canaries with the club having the option on a further year, bringing him back to England from Palermo where he, last season, helped the Italian club to promotion to Serie A with eleven goals.

There was no mention of the widespread comments from Palermo president who described Lafferty as a womanising, out of control Irishman, but Lafferty is delighted to be given another chance to try and get into the Premier League.

"Norwich is a team that wants to get promoted back to the Premier League at the first opportunity, so I'm excited to come here and start playing football for a team like this," he said after completing the formalities of a deal that will go through next Tuesday.

He added: "I've played in the Championship before and I've played against Norwich, and things I noticed about the club were the fans and the football they played. Speaking to the gaffer, everything he said and everything he wants me to do, it's good to have someone like that believing in me. I can't wait to get started."

Lafferty left Burnley in the summer of 2008 after an apparent fall out with manager Owen Coyle that led to him virtually demanding a move via an interview for the Belfast Telegraph. He eventually signed for Rangers but took the opportunity to get out two years ago when they were demoted to the bottom division of the league in Scotland.

He spent the first year at FC Sion in Switzerland before signing for Palermo last summer, and now moves for the third successive summer with this long term deal at Norwich.
