When Hollins went he was once again in the frame but the job went to player Paul Simpson who gave the number two job to Jamie Hoyland and that left Hamilton out of work.
He’s back in the game though at Wigan Athletic, one of his former clubs, as Chief Scout and returns to work alongside three of his colleagues from his days there as a player. They are manager Paul Jewell, coach David Lowe and physio Alex Cribley.
He had been at Rochdale for four years but is looking forward to his new role and told the Wigan web site,
"It’s great to return to a club that you’ve a great affinity with and that’s how I feel about Wigan. It’s an exciting opportunity for me and a new challenge that I’m really looking forward to. It’s a new role but one I’m sure I can adjust to, as I have spent a lot of the last four years travelling around taking in matches and watching players."
It is to be hoped he has a better time there than in his two years at the Turf where the main memories seem to be the injury at Forest and the play off red card.
