Former Claret Davis says goodbye to Southport

Having come through the youth system at Burnley he was rewarded with a professional deal and got as far as the subs bench for the first team during the 2002/03 season, making the bench for the first time for an FA Cup tie at Grimsby.

However, he never got a debut and spent a period on loan with Southport and was released at the end of the 2002/03 season. He joined Swansea for a short time and had a trial at Bury but eventually joined Southport permanently.

In three spells with the Sandgrounders he's been a very popular player but he hasn't played since last season due to an Achilles injury. That led to the news yesterday from Southport that he had left the club by mutual consent due to the injury.

The club wished him well and Davis, himself, thanked the club, it's staff, players and supporters and confirmed that he'd take a few months out to sort out the injury before deciding on his future.

His place in the Southport team this season has been taken by another former youth player from Burnley, Chris Lynch who has now won himself a regular place in their team in the Blue Square Premier League.
