Former Burnley keeper looking for new club

They took a ten point penalty but that still kept them clear of the relegation places but under the rules of the league they have lost their place and dropped not one, but three levels in the football pyramid to the Unibond League Division One.

For one former Claret that means a search for a new club. Goalkeeper Craig Mawson first played for them after leaving the Clarets in 2001 and after spells with Morecambe, Oldham and Hereford he returned to the Shay in the summer of 2006.

He still had one year left on his contract but he's now free to find himself a new club after Halifax offered him a free transfer today. He is one of three players offered a free whilst they have made another five available for transfer.

Craig is still very much involved at Burnley and is one of the goalkeeping coaches within our Centre of Excellence. When he finds himself a new club those responsible for youth development at Turf Moor will be hoping that club will be reasonably local to allow him to continue his work at Burnley.

Mawson, now 29, has played over 260 games for his clubs since he made his debut for Halifax in a Football League game against Shrewsbury in March 2001.
