Flynn back in the Football League

It is one year ago today that Flynn, along with Kevin Reeves and Joey Jones, announced that they would be leaving Wrexham at the end of the 2001/02 season but six days later he and Reeves were relieved of their duties at the Racecourse Ground.

For most of last season he was to all intents and purposes a member of the Turf Moor staff and travelled to virtually every away match on the team coach. He was, as Stan put it, just helping out.

He has been linked with a number of jobs since his departure from Wrexham and in fact looked set to be appointed Swansea manager last season but the move fell through over his insistence in taking Kevin Reeves as his assistant.

Swansea appointed internally instead by handing the job to Nick Cusack but after a poor start to the season Cusack is to become the first 2002/03 casualty and Flynny will be officially unveiled as the new Swansea boss tomorrow with Kevin Reeves named as his assistant.

The two of them worked together throughout the 13 years Flynn was manager of Wrexham having been colleagues at Burnley in the mid 1980s. He always insisted that any new job he took would involve Reeves.

Swansea were beaten 4-0 by his former club Wrexham last Saturday and they are currently next to bottom of the Football League. Only Boston’s points deduction currently keeps them off the bottom although the two meet tonight.

By the time he officially takes over the reigns tomorrow they could be bottom but Flynny has been there before with Wrexham and successfully avoided the drop before moving them up into Division Two. Swansea will be hoping he can now do as good a job in South Wales.
