David Unsworth - offered a coaching role
Jon Harley, Brian Jensen, James O'Connor, Jay Rodriguez and David Unsworth have all been offered new contracts by manager Owen Coyle with Unsworth set to take on a new role should he accept his offer.

All five are considering the offers and whilst no details have been revealed of those to Harley, Jensen and O'Connor it has been announced that Rodriguez, who has just completed his first year as a professional, has now been offered a further two years with the club.

The most intriguing is the offer made to David Unsworth who, should he accept, will have a vital role to play in coaching the younger players such as Rodriguez and both Adam Kay and Alex MacDonald who are about to step up from the apprenticeship ranks.

Unsworth has been offered a one year player/coach deal although it does look as though it is going to be considerably biased towards the coaching rather than the playing.

Coyle has said: "I have spoken to all the players individually and having spoken to Brian Jensen, James O'Connor and Jon Harley, we have offered them deals. They have obviously got other interests though, so we await their replies."

On Unsworth he said: "David has been offered a one year coaching deal as I feel he has a lot to offer this football club. His ability will be welcome on the coaching side of things, with regard to developing our young players, which is the way ahead. Within that we would still retain his playing registration and again, we now await David's reply."

The manager has also said that should RK Sunderland release Andrew Cole he will have a chat with him whilst he's thanked both Stanislav Varga and Mark Randall for their services as they returned to RK Sunderland and Arsenal respectively.
