Southend won the game 3-0 but O'Neill, who had impressed on his debut, was substituted in the 44th minute after suffering a thigh strain.

The injury has kept him out since but he's fit again and hoping to play a part tonight when the face Hartlepool at Roots Hall.]

Manager Phil Brown said: "Hopefully we'll have Luke O'Neill back in contention," and he's again spoken about trying to keep him at Southend for longer, despite his lack of availability in the last month.

"Negotiations are continuing but we feel like we've made inroads into making sure Luke stays with us. We want him to stay and hopefully it can all be sorted out," Brown added.
