First Turf Moor game for referee Harrington

Last updated : 25 March 2014 By Tony Scholes

He had a decent enough game that night at York and earned himself a RATE THE REF rating of 54.33 out of 100. But it wasn't a difficult game to referee.

That was his first game of what is his second season as a Football League referee. He'd had one game during 2011/12 before winning promotion that summer and getting his first game of the 2012/13 season at Rochdale in their 0-0 draw against Northampton.

He refereed 24 games in that first season with over half of them in League Two. One concerning statistic was that five of his six red cards that season came in a run of six games in November and December.

He didn't referee any Championship games at all and had to wait until September of this season to get his first game at this level. That was a 1-1 draw between Bolton and Yeovil at the Reebok, and he's only refereed a further three Championship games since in a total of 21 games so far this season.

In those 21 games he's shown 52 yellow cards and five red cards although none of the red cards have come in Championship games. Interestingly, 12 of his first 17 yellow cards this season went to away players as have 10 of the last 11, but overall the total is 21 home yellow cards and 31 to away team players.

Harrington's last game came exactly one week ago when he refereed the 1-1 League Two draw between Cheltenham and Wycombe at Whaddon Road. The only player carded in that game was Wycombe's Max Kretzschmar.

The assistant referees tonight are former Football League referee Karl Evans (Manchester) and Paul Kettlewell (Lancashire). The fourth official is Ben Toner (Lancashire).
