First team subs in reserves

Luke Chadwick - lines up for the reserves
On this occasion he has decided that the players need games and so all five will start as we look for our first win of the season and surely this must be the first time that we have ever had two loan players in a reserve team in Luke Chadwick and Delroy Facey.

Stan has said that neither of them are fully fit but need the games and so they will line up alongside the other three subs and Matt O’Neill and Joel Pilkington who have recently lost their places on the bench.

The game also sees a welcome return to action for Earl Davis via the subs bench. Earl has been injured since a loan spell with Southport at the end of last season and is now back in full training. Although no longer under contract at Turf Moor he has been retained.

There is no sign of Australian trialist Dave Carney who played in the last reserve game a couple of weeks ago and so it can only be assumed that he has now left the club.

Some of the youngsters who have done so well this season in difficult circumstances get a rest tonight with four of them taking seats on the bench alongside Earl.

So tonight, for our last home reserve game until 28th January we will line up:

Michael Hale, Ross Preston, Mark McGregor, Lee Roche, Danny Pitham, Luke Chadwick, Paul Weller, Joel Pilkington, Matt O’Neill, Alex Taylor, Delroy Facey. Subs: Earl Davis, Marc Pugh, Darrel Avery, Ryan Townsend, Tom Ince.

Hull include some experience in their side too including Dean Keates who has played well against the Clarets for Walsall on a number of occasions. He lines up alongside Justin Whittle and Carl Regan.

There’s also a familiar face on the bench for Hull, that of Ed O’Neill who two seasons ago was in the Burnley squad that went out of the FA Youth Cup at Maine Road against KKMC. A look back at the line up that day shows mainly players who have moved on but it did include names such as Richard Chaplow and Ed’s older brother Matt.

He is the youngest of the three O’Neill’s with older brother Joe enjoying a successful long term loan spell from Preston with Bury. Ed was at our Centre of Excellence but was not taken on and took up the offer of a scholarship with Hull – I seem to remember a certain Mr. Payton taking the same path.

Hull’s team tonight is:

Danny Harvey, Carl Regan, Nathan Peat, James Tomlinson, Justin Whittle, John Anderson, Simon Russell, Dean Keates, Danny Webb, Clayton Donaldson, Andy Holt. Subs: Liam Cattermole, Michael, Ed O’Neill, Ashley Allanson, Michael Cooper.
