First cap for Jay Rod in Italy defeat

Cork, who had played on nine previous occasions, didn't have too long to wait for his tenth cap. He came on for Everton's Jack Rodwell with just twelve minutes gone. He slotted into a central defensive position and had an excellent game, clearly impressing the FA's Chelsea biased commentary.

Jay had to wait until the hour mark when he, Leeds United's Jonny Howson and Alex Oxlande-Chamberlain replaced Nathan Delfouneso, James Vaughan and Henri Lansbury. He did well too, but a late penalty conceded by Ben Mee, that saw him sent off, was coverted by Federico Macheda to give the Italians a 1-0 win.

The next two games are during the next international break in March. We play Denmark away and then face Iceland at Deepdale. Hopefully Jay will be in the squad that day with a healthy Clarets following to support him.

The England team was: Frank Fielding, Kyle Naughton, Ben Mee, Jack Rodwell (Jack Cork 12), Joe Bennett, Fabrice Muamba, Joshua McEachran (Kieran Trippier 83), Marc Albrighton (Scott Sinclair 74), Henri Lansbury (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 60), James Vaughan (Jay Rodriguez 60), Nathan Delfouneso (Jonny Howson 60). Subs not used: Jason Steele.
