First Burnley game for Russell

He got his Football League career underway on the opening day of the 2004/05 season with five yellow cards in the League Two game between Scunthorpe and Rochdale and he added another twelve yellow cards and one red card in the next two games.

He did quieten down somewhat after that and by the end of the season had averaged just under two yellow cards per game whilst the early red card to Shrewsbury's Jamie Tolley remained the only player he sent off all season.

His first Championship game came in January of that season when he took charge of the Ipswich v Coventry game and it was one of three games at that level during that season.

Although there have been a few more red cards in subsequent seasons his average for yellow cards hasn't altered this much, and that is born out with his figures this season in which he has sent off five players and yellow carded 72 in 36 games.

Four of those five red cards have gone to away team players, the most recent of which was in his last game when Accrington's Aswad Thomas received his marching orders in their defeat at Macclesfield. Of his yellow cards 31 have gone to home team players and 41 to away team players.

Again he's a referee I can't recall having seen but he doesn't look to be too card happy and hopefully he'll not favour one side as a certain Mr. Booth did at Norwich last week.

He will be assisted by Danny Roberts and David Unsworth (both Greater Manchester) and the fourth official will be Gary Hilton (Lancashire).
