First Burnley game for Marriner

The 36 year-old has had a rapid rise since being promoted to the Football League list for the 2003/04 season and in November of his second season he took charge of his first Premiership game between Charlton and Norwich at the Valley. It wasn't a one off, and his Premiership games have now reached ten including three in eight days during last month.

That trio of games saw him produced his first Premiership red card when he dismissed Manchester City's Stephen Jordan in their 1-0 defeat at Everton. Jordan is one of seven players he has sent off this season with two of them coming in a League Two game between Bradford City and Barnsley.

He also sent off Stoke's John Halls (he's now with Reading) in a game that will be remembered more for the events after the game than during it. That was Stoke's home game with QPR that ended with the visiting keeper Simon Royce being attacked by Stoke fans in the goal mouth.

Apart from the red cards he averages just over three yellow cards per game this season with 71 from 22 games. Of those cards 27 of them have gone to home players with 44 to away players.

His assistant referees by Andy Halliday and Gary Kellett whilst Michael Short will be the fourth official. All three of them are from Yorkshire.
