Farrell is guest against old club

When Brian Miller set about rebuilding his squad in the aftermath of the Orient game in 1987 Andy was one of the players he brought in, and he went on to play almost 350 games for the club in just over seven years before moving on to Wigan.

Andy played in virtually every position whilst with the Clarets, including one spell in goal against Stockport but despite playing a lot of games at both full back and centre half his best position was as a central midfielder.

Having made a £5,000 move to Turf Moor from Colchester, he made his Clarets debut against his former club, a game that saw the Clarets beaten 3-0 on the opening day of the 1987/88 season.

Andy had better days though, he was a member of the Fourth Division Championship side of 1991/92 and two years later was in the squad that clinched promotion via the play offs. That day he came on as a substitute for the injured John Francis and in doing so became the only Claret ever to play twice for the club at Wembley having played six years earlier in the Sherpa Van Trophy Final.

Two pre-season games in 1994 apart, that second Wembley appearance proved to be his last and in September of that year he moved on to Wigan. From there he signed for Rochdale before going into the Conference with first Morecambe and then Leigh RMI and he played his last game for them at the end of the 2001/02 season at the age of 36.

He still lives locally and is once again very much part of Burnley Football Club, working with the Centre of Excellence as a coach, helping the club in producing young footballers.

He's also a decent golfer, and was a member of the club team that won the recent Clarets Mad Golf Day at Rishton, he obviously has a 'nose' for that game as well. I'm not sure he'll be wearing that golf cap tomorrow though when he steps out onto the pitch.
