Farewell Frank

Sinclair joined the Clarets on a three year deal in the summer of 2004. He's been a regular in the side, and for a season and a half was the club captain. He's struggled with injury recently and with new signings coming in is no longer guaranteed a first team place.

The move to Huddersfield is with a view to a permanent signing which will give him an extra year, an opportunity that he has taken, and he leaves us with a tribute from his manager Steve Cotterill.

He told the club's web site: “He has been a fantastic servant. He hasn't been a minute's bother since he's been here. He has been first class. We'd like to wish him all the best from everybody here.

“He's been magnificent from the moment he has walked through the door, from his first header against Everton in the first pre-season friendly, until the last game he played for us. Any player that you've worked with, it is always sad to see them leave. You have like a family in the dressing room, so it is sad when they go.

“I would just like to think since he has been here, I've been good for him and I can certainly say he's been good for me. We will miss him because he is a great character but football evolves and we have a good opportunity of evolving. He's 35 now so not only does Frank need to look at that for the future, we need to look at that too.”

I'm sure the Huddersfield fans will read those comments and realise just what a good signing they have made. I was tipped off that afternoon we signed him that he was on his way and to be honest I wasn't all that excited about the thought of Frank Sinclair being a Claret.

Now, as he leaves, I can look back on the two and a half years he's been here and see what a good signing he was. I can't speak of him in the way that Steve does, but his attitude has always been first class, that was highlighted for me last season when he played in a couple of reserve games and showed just the same commitment.

A far better player than I thought he was, with 100% commitment every time, it really has been good having Frank here for the last two and a half years.

My very best wishes to you at Huddersfield.
