His appointment as assistant boss at Plainmoor comes as no real surprise. He was helping out there in the latter weeks of the 2012/13 season, working alongside Alan Knill who was temporary manager due to the illness of full time manager Martin Ling.
At the end of the season Ling was dismissed and Knill has been handed the job on a permanent basis and he immediately decided to offer the assistant role to Brass who had held the same position with him at both Bury and Scunthorpe.
However, it will mean Brassy being away from home as Knill explained when confirming the appointment. "It's different for me because my family have grown up and it was easier for my wife to move, so we could just agree to come here," Knill said.
"It is a bit more difficult for Chris because his wife has a business and his two daughters are in school. He lives near Burnley but the thing that has always impressed me with Chris is that he really does commit to a task. When he says yes, that's it for him and he has had other offers as well.
"We will work it out so that on a Tuesday in a free week he can head north to watch a game and spend some time at home before returning the next day. He's not moving his family down but he will be here.
"Chris would not be happy working part time, he wants to do it properly. In the time we've worked together, the only way we know is to fully commit to the job and throw yourself into everything. It is all or nothing for us."
Brass, who was close to a Turf Moor return in January 2011 with the appointment of Eddie Howe as manager, kick started his Football League playing career with Torquay, making ten appearances for them on loan before getting his first team debut with the Clarets.
