Arthur - lined up against John Mullin and Paul Shaw
Eight of them were making debuts for new clubs although in the case of Glen Little at Reading, Marlon Beresford at Luton and Dean West at Lincoln it was a case of second time around at their respective clubs.

Paul Shaw was one of the five making a first ever appearances for a new club. He made a loan move to Rotherham from Sheffield United just last week. Playing alongside John Mullin and against King Arthur Gnohere he scored Rotherham’s goal in a 1-1 draw.

Two of our hardly used loan players from last season made debuts with new clubs in League One. Midfielder Bradley Orr was released by Newcastle and would now have been at Burnley had Stan stayed. He played for Bristol City in their 1-1 home draw against Torquay.

Goalkeeper Paul Rachubka, Burnley fans never even got to see what he looked like never mind how he played, was in the Franchise goal at the NHS and was badly at fault with Barnsley’s goal in a game that also ended 1-1.

Mark McGregor was named as a substitute by new Blackpool manager Colin Hendry but replaced Danny Livesey at half time as they went down 2-0 to newly promoted Doncaster at Belle View and down in League Two Micky Mellon made a debut for Kidderminster in a goalless draw at Rushden & Diamonds.

Two former loan goalkeepers were named as subs for new clubs in the Championship although neither was called on. Gavin Ward had to contend with 90 minutes of the Weary Whinger at Deepdale whilst Andy Marriott has again teamed up with Peter Reid and was on the bench for Coventry against his former club Sunderland.

Elsewhere Alan Lee scored for Cardiff at Crewe and Gareth Taylor did likewise for Forest at Wigan where he partnered David Johnson and Driss Diallo was in the Ipswich defence as they beat Gillingham 2-1 for whom Ian Cox was missing with a back injury.

And to round it up Steve Blatherwick played for Chesterfield, Matty Hewlett for Swindon, Mark Robertson for the Unprofessionals and Brad Maylett came on as a late substitute for Swansea.

Finally the oldest of them all David Eyres is into a new contract at Oldham but had to settle for a subs berth and wasn’t used in their 2-1 defeat against Marlon Beresford’s Luton.
