Ex-Clarets continue to find the net

Alan Lee celebrates his second and the winner against Derby
Wolves were held to a 2-2 draw at Molineux by early strugglers Sheffield Wednesday and it was former Burnley target Shefki Kuqi who got both Wednesday goals. That point, coupled with our defeat at Reading, ensured we are now two points adrift at the bottom of the league.

If it is goals from ex-Clarets you want then the First Division is the place to be and there were four more during the week with two players scoring two each. On Monday afternoon Rotherham continued their impressive start to the season with what was perhaps a surprise 2-1 home victory against Derby County.

They even went a goal down but came storming back with Alan Lee scoring both Rotherham goals for a victory that sees the Millers currently in third spot in the league. They missed relegation on goal difference last season and could still have another relegation fight this time around but eleven points from the first five games is certainly a good start.

Last night David Johnson was at it again. Unable to score a goal for Forest hardly until his loan spell at Burnley at the end of last season he has now found himself a regular member of the side and this time he scored both goals in a comfortable 2-0 win over Franchise FC at the City Ground.

Sheffield United won again to go eighth, a position far higher than they are likely to finish, and the win was against Millwall who really are struggling. Unable to attract anyone through the turnstiles now they have made a bad start to the season after reaching the play offs last season. They are currently the team nearest to us in 23rd place with two point.

The Sky cameras picked a good game and had seven goals as Watford beat Coventry 5-2, this was Coventry’s first defeat of the season. Watford looked impressive and a totally different side than the strugglers of last season with Gianluca Vialli and Ray Wilkins.

With Portsmouth and Wolves taking the top two places Coventry join Rotherham in the play off area along with Gillingham who drew 1-1 with Craig Brown’s apparently tactically inept Preston and Norwich who also earned a point away from home with a 1-1 draw, theirs coming at Stoke. Meanwhile Grimsby are 22nd and in the relegation positions with Millwall and the Clarets.

Jamie Cureton’s goals see him at the top of the scoring chart at the moment, he has scored six of Reading’s seven goals this season. The top scorers are as follows:

6: Jamie Cureton (Reading)
4: Darren Byfield (Rotherham)
4: David Johnson (Nottm Forest)
4: Alan Lee (Rotherham)
4: Paul McVeigh (Norwich)
3: Deon Burton (Portsmouth)
3: Brian Deane (Leicester)
3: Ricardo Fuller (Preston)
