Craig Mawson was in goal for Morecambe who went to Chesterfield and won 2-1, their opponents had Steve Blatherwick on the subs bench although he wasn’t called upon. And Southport included Mark Winstanley in their side as they came from 2-0 behind to beat 10 men Notts County 4-2 at Haig Avenue.
Only five other ex-Clarets were in winning teams though. Both Matty Heywood and Matty Hewlett were in the Swindon team that beat Huddersfield 1-0, Neil Howarth played for Cheltenham in their 2-0 success at Yeovil, Neil Moore played for Mansfield and John O’Kane came on as sub for Blackpool as they won 4-1 at Barnsley. Andy Marriott was the Barnsley keeper conceding the four goals.
Again though the 1st round had its heroes and probably the biggest success of all was that of the tiny Harrogate Railway who went to Slough and won 2-1 whilst students Team Bath, coached by Chris Casper, finally went out in front of the television cameras in a 4-2 home defeat against that Mansfield side with Neil Moore.

Vauxhall Motors played their home game against QPR at Chester and the players were provided with new shirts with their names on. They were told they could keep them after the game so they could swap them or get them autographed.
Those who did swap them had to hurriedly go and get them back after the draw because they are now needed for the replay and the club cannot afford another set. Whatever happens though, win or lose, they have been assured that they will be able to keep them after the replay.
Last season just two non-league teams made the 3rd round and they were Dagenham & Redbridge and Canvey Island. The Clarets of course drew Canvey. There is no sign of them this season, their form has dipped considerably since that cup tie last January but the Daggers are still there. This season the draw has ensured there will be at least three non-league teams in the 3rd round.
The full 2nd round draw is:
