Ex-Clarets among the goals this week

Nathan Delfouneso scored twice for Blackpool

Blackpool were the biggest winners in this, the second midweek fixture list of the season, beating Middlesbrough 4-1 at Bloomfield Road and two of their goals came from Nathan Delfouneso, his first for the club following his season long loan move from Aston Villa.

He wasn't the only player to have donned the claret and blue to score a Championship goal this week. In the same game, Middlesbrough's consolation was scored by Andre Bikey (formerly known as Andre Bikey and Andre Amougou) although he was also guilty of giving away a penalty in his second game for his new club.

Chris Eagles was on the mark for Bolton. They lost at Birmingham but would have won had manager Owen Coyle been refereeing the game rather than Carl Boyeson. Well, that's what Coyle said as he claimed this was the third time his side had been robbed of wins because of poor decisions, the others being against Burnley and Hull.

Back to the former Clarets and Pete Whittingham was on the mark again for Cardiff, this time with the opener in a 2-0 win at Millwall. Finally, on Tuesday, Andy Gray scored his first goal for Leeds, and that's some achievement given he made his debut for them back in the mid 1990s.

He's returned there this season having been released by Barnsley. Now 34, he scored a late goal against Hull at Elland Road but it was only a consolation as they went down 3-2.

There was just one more and it was as predictable as going dark at night. When David Nugent plays against Burnley there is more than an even chance he'll net. He did just that in the second minute of the second half last night. That's two for Preston, two for Portsmouth and now two for Leicester.

One game of real note was that between Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield at Hillsborough where referee Graham Salisbury had a busy night. There were no less than 53 yellow and three red cards in the midweek games with ten of those cards coming in this game.

A red card each, five yellows for Wednesday and three for Huddersfield, two penalties awarded to Huddersfield with one missed. It was a game Simon Grayson described as eventful and he'll be happy as it takes them into the top six. In a week for ex-Clarets, it only needed a goal from Alan Lee when he came on as a sub for the last few minutes.
