They kicked off their new season yesterday with a heavy 4-0 defeat against Bournemouth at home with former Burnley youth player Marc Pugh opening the scoring after just 24 seconds.

Robins pulled no punches after the game: "It was an absolute disgrace," he said. "We switched off and didn't play with any idea."

He also said: "I feel let down," and "We'll fight and move on," but that's not going to happen. Discussions after the game led to the this morning's news that his contract had been terminated by mutual consent and all agreed it would be in the best interests of all parties to part company with him.

Step up Steve Thompson. He's carried out the role on a number of occasions at Blackpool previously. He was at Bloomfield Road for some time but was sacked along with Paul Ince during last season.

He joined Huddersfield as assistant manager less than two months ago and has now been asked to take charge of training today. Huddersfield will reveal further details of interim management changes in due course.

Thompson joined Burnley in February 1995 from Leicester, making his debut in a 4-1 defeat at Tranmere. He went on to make 53 appearances for the club but, after a fall out with manager Adrian Heath, was released at the end of the 1996/97 season.
