He has previous experience as a manager with Ayr where he won two promotions in three years but has more recently been working as a scout in Scotland for Coventry and that's played a part in him getting this job.

Coventry manager is Stephen Pressley, and the two are very good friends, so when Nuneaton were looking for a new boss it was Pressley who tipped them off about him.

"We put his name forward and then he was interviewed and Nuneaton obviously liked what they heard from him," Pressley said. The Coventry manager also confirmed that their relationship with Nuneaton is a strong one.

He added: "We've always tried to help out with loan players and friendly games or whatever we can to assist them and that will remain the case. It's an important relationship moving forward."

Reid joined the Clarets early in Stan Ternent's first season as manager, making his debut at Luton in September 1998. He had a decent season and was offered a new deal at the end of it before it was suddenly withdrawn.

He moved to Dunfermline before going on to play for Blackpool, Falkirk and Queen of the South. He became manager of Ayr in October 2007 and was in charge there until the end of the 2011/12 season.
