Ex-Claret not in Oz

That was Tony Ellis and he did indeed go to Australia and played some football out there. It looked as if he had gone on a permanent basis but that is not so and he has now signed for another North West club.

He has now returned to non league football with Leigh RMI where he will team up with other Turf Moor personalities in Andy Farrell, Gerry Harrison and Dino Maamria. Andy Farrell is now coach there but Harrison and Maamria were both in the side for their opening day defeat at Dagenham and Redbridge.

Ellis was a strange signing for the Clarets last summer having been released by 3rd Division Rochdale and he never started a game. He made eleven short appearances as a substitute and scored one goal, the winner in the 3-2 victory at Bradford City.

It was certainly less of a surprise when he left and the reasoning behind his twelve months at Burnley has remained a mystery to the fans.

He started his career at a Conference club in Northwich Victoria and now returns there having served Oldham, Preston (twice), Stoke, Blackpool, Bury, Stockport, Rochdale and Burnley.
