Brian Flynn’s Swansea have got off to a goal laden start with fifteen scored already. They beat Bury at the Vetch Field 4-2 on the opening day of the season with a Brad Maylett hat trick and have recorded further high scoring home wins against Boston 3-0 and Mansfield 4-1.
Their one away win was also a high scoring affair, 4-3 at Cheltenham, whilst their only defeat was 3-0 at Oxford with all three goals coming in the last five minutes.
York’s only defeat was by the same scoreline at Lincoln but although they haven’t been able to score goals like Swansea they have conceded only one goal in their five wins. Two of those wins have been away from home, at Carlisle 2-1 on the first day of the season and by 1-0 at Huddersfield.
Their two home wins so far have also brought victories against Northampton 1-0 and Southend 2-0.
In the end the judges went for experience and Flynny although there is no doubt that Brassy will have many opportunities in the future to pick up the award. Flynn will now be hoping that he doesn’t suffer from the curse of the award and run into a sequence of bad results.
