Ewood Park win was the big one

My choice was the 3-0 win at Derby. I thought we were outstanding that afternoon back in August when goals from Danny Ings, Sam Vokes and Jason Shackell gave us a 3-0 win that referee Andy Madley did his best to prevent.

It took second place in the vote for the best away performance of the season and you won't need any second guesses as to which of the eleven came out on top.

Let's go back to March, to the 9th of March to be exact, and the eighth of those eleven victories on the road. With just under 20 minutes remaining we were 1-0 down, but for the first and only time all season we came from behind to win away from home.

Goals from Jason Shackell and Danny Ings turned things round to give us a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park which caused sheer delirium and pandemonium in the Darwen End as over 4,600 Clarets danced in sheer delight at the win over our closest neighbours and rivals.

Was it our best away performance of the season? I'm not so sure it was. Was it our most significant away win of the season? Without a doubt it was.

To be able to vote for a win against Blackburn is a first for so many of our supporters and that's where the votes went during the last four days as it won 62.4% of the vote.

That Derby win? It won 24.9% of the vote to finish second but the rest really were also rans with the excellent 3-0 win at Charlton coming third with under 4% of the vote.

So it is the Blackburn away win that goes alongside the best home win of the season against Nottingham Forest which was played two weeks earlier.

On Saturday the voting will start to select the best Burnley team of the last ten years, starting with the immediate post-Ternent era. The first vote will be to select the goalkeeper.
