Ellis axed at Leeds

In a very brief statement from the Yorkshire club they announced that Ellis, who joined them in the summer of 2004, had left the club by mutual consent at the end of his contract, basically meaning they had told him he was leaving.

Strangely, manager Kevin Blackwell said: “Sam has been with the club for two seasons and has been instrumental in helping build it back up from the ruins. He has done a fantastic job and he leaves with our thanks.” So Blackwell thinks he's done a fantastic job but has decided not to offer him a new deal to remain at Elland Road.

Those two years followed a long association with Stan Ternent. He returned to Bury, where he had previously been manager, to work as Stan's assistant in 1995 and remained with him for almost nine years when the two of them left Burnley. With so many jobs available just now maybe he and Stan will renew their partnership.
