Elliott takes last goal award

Wade Elliott
In a contest against eleven other goals he came out on top with the goal right at the end of the game at the KC Stadium that provided the icing on the cake in Burnley's only away win of the season.

Having won a free kick on the left hand side of the box, and deep into injury time with the Clarets leading 3-1, Elliott joked that he was told to put the ball in the corner. So he did just that, in the top corner of the far post leaving Boaz Myhill with no chance. That goal earned him 37.0% of the vote.

Wade also played his part in the goal that finished second, our equaliser against Spurs on the last day of the season. It was a trademark Elliott run through the middle before he played the ball out wide to Martin Paterson whose cross was met by Jack Cork, coming in between the two central defenders, to head home.

20.4% of the vote won second place for Cork and that last game also provided the third place goal from Paterson who got behind the full back to hit home after Steven Fletcher had played the ball across to him. Paterson's share of the vote was 10.9%.

A total of sixteen Premier League goals, including all the monthly winners, are now included in the Goal of the Season Vote which can be found some way down the right hand side of the front page.

The vote continues until the end of Friday after which we'll know who has taken the Goal of the Season crown won last year by Martin Paterson for his goal at Reading in the play off semi-final.
