Elliott on offer

We reported earlier that Wolves were one of the clubs back in for Kyle Lafferty and suggested that there offer was not a straight cash offer but would include a player or players who are not expected to be part of Mick McCarthy's squad next season.

The press down in the West Midlands have now reported that the player they are keen to offload to us as part of any Lafferty deal is Stephen Elliott who joined Wolves ten months ago from RK Sunderland.

Elliott had twice featured in promotion teams on Wearside and the first of those was under the management of Mick McCarthy in the 2004/05 season, and when he became available last summer McCarthy wasted no time in taking him to Molineux.

However, the 24-year-old Republic of Ireland international hasn't been a regular in the Wolves side and started just 18 league games last season which was added to with 11 substitute appearances. He scored just four goals in those games including the penalty against us at Molineux in December and that remains Elliott's last league goal.

It is suggested that Wolves have offered us £2.25 million plus Elliott but I would suggest they have a rather inflated valuation on their player or this offer is well short of previous offers received for Lafferty.
