Edgar fee finally agreed

The long negotiations, carried out at our end by Chief Executive Paul Fletcher, have been due to problems at the Newcastle end but just ahead of Christmas a deal has finally been agreed.

Burnley will pay Newcastle an initial £300,000 for Edgar and there is a further six figure payment based on appearances as well as a sell clause that was put in place at Newcastle's request.

There has been speculation that Edgar has, to date, been unable to play for the Clarets but that is not the case at all and he has played in the Carling Cup at Hartlepool and in reserve games whilst also being available to Owen Coyle for all of our Premier League games apart from the first of the season at Stoke when he was suspended.

Edgar signed a deal with the Clarets until the end of the 2012/13 season, the same as Richard Eckersley, but there is to be no easy solution to the Eckersley transfer saga. The two clubs have failed to reach any sort of agreement and the transfer fee will now be decided by a tribunal in the New Year.

It is thought Burnley were looking to pay no more for the right back than they have finally agreed to pay initially for Edgar but it has been suggested that Manchester United are looking for a fee somewhere near to £2 million.

Eckersley too is still to make his Premier League debut for the Clarets. He was on the subs bench at Stoke and has since played in the two Carling Cup ties which didn't go particularly well for him.
