Easy win for the Clarets

Robbie Blake - scored two goals and Clarets' best player
There was no stopping the Clarets and in particular Robbie Blake who turned in a Man of the Match performance and grabbed two of the goals. Somehow he didn’t pick up the award for best player, to the astonishment of the sparse travelling Clarets that went to Arthur Gnohere.

There was a first goal in the first team also for Dimitri Papadopoulos although he spurned several other chances. Andy Payton scored within seconds of coming on as a substitute before Steve Davis completed the scoring.

The result means the Clarets, as was the case two years ago, have finished fifth in the tournament ahead of tomorrow's final between two 3rd division clubs Darlington and Wrexham. Earlier today Luton clinched 3rd place after a 4-2 win against Rochdale.

Now we come back home with the next game at home to Bolton on Wednesday and let’s hope that we find somewhere else to go and play pre-season in 2003.

Despite suggestions that Gordon Armstrong and Ian Cox would get their first outings of the pre-season following injuries neither of them did make it in the end. However they are expected to be fit soon and that is good news coupled with the news that Paul Weller will be fit for the big kick off in just over two weeks time.

The teams lined up as follows:

Isle of Man: Kelvin Dawson (John Ward 45), Julian Ringham, Paddy Horn, Paul Jones, Nigel Shimmin, Lee Dixon, Kevin Megson (Jim Travers 62), Johnny Myers, Peter Langridge, Johnny Cowley (Stephen Priestnal 73), Rob Sorbey (Alan Thomas 40).

Burnley: Nik Michopoulos (Marlon Beresford 45), Dean West, Marlon Broomes, Arthur Gnohere, Mark McGregor, Glen Little, Tony Grant (Steve Davis 53), Paul Cook (Lee Briscoe 45), Alan Moore (Graham Branch 51), Robbie Blake, Dimitri Papadopoulos (Andy Payton 69).
