Eagles gets the nomination for November

Surprise because Joey hadn't featured in all of the games and had only started two of the five league games in the month. I think his goal against Preston, coupled with the need to get us a player in the nominations, won him a place in the top four players. He had done well, but for me Chris McCann was the star player of the month.

Now, for November, we have a player nominated again. There are without doubt several candidates, and goalkeeper Brian Jensen can consider himself unlucky that his performances against Reading and Arsenal came just outside the month.

Graham Alexander and Steven Caldwell were without doubt strong candidates, as was Chris Eagles who got his place back in the side just before the start of the month. And it is Eagles who has been nominated when again it is the forward players who have been selected.

He played in all seven games during the month. He scored twice in the first of those games against Norwich and has had a number of assists to go with that.

He's now up against three strikers as he looks to win the award. There's Chris Iwelumo at Wolves, Reading's Kevin Doyle and James Beattie who will be playing against us tomorrow for Sheffield United. All three of them have scored six goals during the month.

The winner will be announced next Monday on Sky's Big League Weekend.
