Dyer returns to Southampton

Steve Cotterill was hoping to tie up a long term loan deal with Harry Redknapp that would have seen the youngster remain at Turf Moor for the rest of the season. That didn’t happen although we did get him for a second month albeit with an instant recall clause in the deal.

He was scheduled to stay with us until after the game at Norwich on 28th December which would have meant two more games for him as a Claret, but the news came today that Southampton have decided to take him back.

It all appears to be part of the nonsense going on down on the south coast and Southampton today, in a hardly veiled attack on their former manager Redknapp said, “Despite Dyer’s impressive start for Southampton he was never given a chance in the Championship and was allowed to join Burnley to gain first team experience.

The clause allowed them to recall him at 24 hours notice and he will be in their squad on Boxing Day when he is expected to play against Watford, the club he played against in his last game for the Clarets.

I’m sure all Burnley fans will wish him well, and although he was not in the best of form on Saturday, I think we all know that we are going to hear a lot more about him in the future.
