Dyer loan set to be extended

Nathan arrived at the Turf towards the end of October for a month but after his debut as a second half substitute against Millwall, manager Steve Cotterill immediately said he would like to keep the 17 year-old for the rest of the season.

That is still the case and he’s been talking to Southampton boss Harry Redknapp about it and it appears that the two of them would both like the deal to be extended long term and have agreed initially to Nathan staying with the Clarets for another month.

“I’ve spoken to Harry and we are hopeful it can be extended,” Steve said today. “I would like to keep him all season, but we have got an agreement that will keep him for another month and I am just waiting for confirmation of that from Harry.”

Dyer has played just a game and a half during his stay with the Clarets but that’s been enough to impress the manager. “I like him and he’s got that bubbliness about him,” Steve added. “There’s something about him, he’s infectious and he doesn’t give anything for reputations and he doesn’t give anyone on the field any respect.

“He’s very small, but he has a big heart and you just take to him. He is great to have around the place and I hope he goes on to have a big, big future in the game. Harry will keep his feet on the ground at Southampton and we’d like him to stay a little bit longer and we’ll keep his feet on the ground here.”

If we could keep him just into 2006 it would mean a further seven games for him, that is assuming that Southampton would not allow him to play against them.
