Duffy arrives on loan

The 19-year-old Duffy made his debut for Portsmouth at the end of last season when he came on as a substitute for Linvoy Primus in a home game against Fulham.

He signed for Portsmouth in January of this year when Harry Redknapp snapped him up from then 3rd Division Swansea City despite the fact that the youngster had played just 18 games for the Swans.

Portsmouth said he was a signing for the future and he is one of three players to go out on loan from Fratton Park this week with Mark Burchill joining Rotherham and the highly rated Gary O’Neil signing for Cardiff.

Manager Harry Redknapp is a close friend of Steve Cotterill and it comes as no surprise that our first loan signing this season is courtesy of the Portsmouth boss. Cotterill was close to becoming Redknapp’s number two a couple of years ago before opting for Stoke.

Although Burnley are still to confirm the move, it was revealed by Portsmouth this morning, it is expected that he will be straight into the squad with Michael Duff set to remain in the centre of defence following John McGreal’s injury.
