Duff retains place as Ireland lose

Our right back made his first start for the Irish on Saturday, coming into the side for the suspended Chris Baird and had to deal with Ryan Giggs as he inspired the Welsh to a 3-2 win in Belfast.

With Baird back tonight it was expected he would replace Duff, and he did, but coach Lawrie Sanchez played both with Duff moving into the centre of defence to partner Rotherham’s Colin Murdock.

He’s had a good game in what even Steve Cotterill suggests is his best position and even came close to scoring when he had a header cleared off the line in the second half.

It’s his fourth cap since joining the Clarets in the summer of last year and his seventh in total, he won the first three whilst playing for Cheltenham.
