Duff on standby for Northern Ireland

Last updated : 05 August 2004 By Tony Scholes

Duff became the first ever Cheltenham player to be capped when he made his Northern Ireland debut against Poland in February 2002 when he came on as a substitute for Wigan’s Peter Kennedy.

There has only been one appearance since, again as a sub, against Cyprus when he replaced Andy Griffin of Newcastle.

He’s not featured in the squad since but new Irish boss Lawrie Sanchez has been keeping an eye on him and has put him on standby for their match against Switzerland in Zurich on 18th August.

Much will depend on the injury situation with the other players but it could be that three of our players won’t be around in a couple of weeks time should Duff make it into the squad. Even if not there is every chance he will soon be back with the international squad following his move up to the Championship.
