Duff joins Irish

Duff was put on standby for Northern Ireland’s friendly international in Switzerland but has now been called up by manager Lawrie Sanchez and will be hoping to win his third cap.

Both his previous appearances came two years ago and on both occasions he was called on as a substitute and should he win that third cap he will be the first Claret to represent Northern Ireland since Phil Gray four years ago.

He would of course join a very distinguished group of ex-Clarets to have played for the Irish whilst a Burnley player.

He has now flown out to Switzerland which means he will miss Stan Ternent’s testimonial tomorrow night and the Irish game will be played in the Hardturm Stadium in Zurich on Wednesday.

It could well be that we have two of our players involved in international action this week with Micah Hyde already out in Jamaica for their World Cup Qualifier against America.
