Duff in Ireland squad

They are back in Belfast this weekend when they take on the Welsh on Saturday before flying out to Vienna and a date with Austria on Wednesday, and with injury and suspension problems for manager Lawrie Sanchez it could mean a place in the starting line up for the Clarets’ defender.

Aaron Hughes has been ruled out of both games with injury whilst Chris Baird is suspended for the first game. Sanchez said that it would give other players an opportunity, naming Duff as one of those players.

If he does get a place in the starting line up it will be his full debut for his country, his previous five caps have all been won coming on as a substitute.

The full Northern Ireland squad is: Maik Taylor (Birmingham), Roy Carroll (West Ham), Michael Ingham (Wrexham), Colin Murdock (Rotherham), Stephen Craigan (Motherwell), Chris Baird (Southampton), Tony Capaldi (Plymouth), Michael Duff (Burnley), Gareth McAuley (Lincoln), Steve Davis (Aston Villa), Damien Johnson (Birmingham), Chris Brunt (Sheffield Weds), Stuart Elliott (Hull), Keith Gillespie (Sheffield Utd), Stephen Robinson (Luton), David Healy (Leeds), James Quinn (Peterborough), Warren Feeney (Luton), Steve Jones (Crewe), Andy Smith (Preston), Ivan Sproule (Hibernian).
